SABRINA SARA'S JOURNEY

I
Sabrina Sara
Tell us a little bit about yourself :)

I am French and I live in France. I like sports, dancing and photography. I'm a dancer and an acrobat, as well as a teacher in modern jazz (Validated by a state degree).

How did you get introduced to dancing ?

I started artistic gymnastics when I was 3 years old and I continued for 13 years. I then passed to the higher level of gymnastics but I wanted to change direction and ended up going towards classical dance, then Jazz and Flamenco. I also did Hip-hop, Salsa and several other styles of dance.

I know work in several professional companies, as well as in cabarets as a reviewer and acrobat. I'm going more and more towards circus jobs.

When did gymnastics get “serious” ?

I've always been exposed to the world of dancing, therefore, it was natural for me to continue on this path. It was always an obsession if I might say, it is even a way of life. :)

Can you share your biggest challenges?

I've had several challenges as a dancer/acrobat or even teacher, I've always been very afraid because I am someone that naturally suffers from axiety. Fortunately, with time I became better and I started to believe in myself more. I certainly still have those fears as I am only human, but I tell myself that I can do it, that I'm as good as anybody else and that I worked hard for it.

How do you handle pressure ?

I take a deep breath and repeat to myself positive words, I only think about the good things that I could've done to the people around me that love and support me each day. :)

Can you share your thoughts on self consciousness ?

I am nervous as I said previously, but as I was saying before, with time and practice, that nervousness dims down. :)

What was your most embarrassing moment (in regards to gymnastics of course ;)

One day on scene, I had to execute an imposed choreography in classical dance with pointy shoes and I completely forgot how I was supposed to do it... It was a truly horrible feeling, it was like a moment of loneliness with everyone looking at me without saying anything and the judges that kept on locking their eyes on me. IT was a very long moment for me which was very difficult. I ended up making up some steps, finished my choreography and when out being embarrassed.

How did your passion influence your life in other ways ?

My passion opened me to other people, I'm more confident than before, I take better care of myself and I'm not afraid of starting conversations anymore. Basically I'm more confident in speaking my mind, more open to the world and to exchanges. :)

What does your daily routine look like?

Everyday I train, except on Sundays (Although I sometimes do), for a few hours, it really depends but in general I try to train for 2-3 hours a day :) Sometimes 5-6... It depends on so many things :) Sometimes I don't train at all because I'm tired or hurt.

And what about your flexibility training? Where does that fit in?

I stretch a bit each day in the morning and/or in the evening if I don't have class. Otherwise during dance classes that I teach, obviously. :)Je m'étire un peu chaque jour le matin et/ou le soir si je n'ai pas cours. sinon pendant les cours de danse que je donne, forcement. :)

What keeps you motivated?

I have never wanted to stop dancing or any other artistic activities. It's a life style, so if one day I stop dancing on the higher level, I will continue for fun, from time to time. :)

What are your future plans/goals/dreams?

Work abroad :) Why not in the USA !!! In a school, company, circus, theater, whatever!!!

Any tips for passionate dancers starting out?

Yes, to keep believing in yourself and stay courageous, because the begining is hard. It's like anything, yu need a bit of time to adapt but it's definitely worth it, the well-being and the results that come with it are amazing for the person that we are.

I wouldn't change anything from my journey, what has been done had to be done, it was my DESTINY. :)

Anything you’d like to share?

I'd like to share my photos and videos for the people that are starting out, those that are continuing after the beginning, and those who have been in this kind of work for years, I would like to share my life to see what people think of it. It makes me go forward. :)
